- Students will submit WEEKLY READING REPORTS (each no more than 2 pages in length) that sumarizes assigned books, articles, journals, etc...assigned by the instructor. These book summaries will be posted on BLACKBOARD in the DISCUSSION FORUM. Students are expected to also make brief 3-5 minute oral presentations on their reading during the proseminar when called upon by the instructor. It is the student's responsibility to be ready to present orally and have posted the summary ON TIME. This is worth (40% of your quarter grade). More on this during the first week.
- Oral and Written Assignment--due by WEEK FOUR:
Each student should be ready to briefly summarize orally and in writing (on a 3X5 card) the importance/significance of 10 of the following Key Figures in Environmental History and Ethics (this is worth 10% of your grade):NOTE: The students should divide the list among themselves during the first week. The students should write a brief bio on each one (one side of the card) and then on the back side write the significance/importance as they see it, i.e. what is that person's major contribution to the study of "nature-society thought". They will be able to get a lot of the information online and from the books I've suggested be put on reserve. Have them check specifically the resources under History of Ideas and Literature about Nature . Also check the online resources at Environmental History and Thinking .... see also the syllabus. They should take NOTE specifically of the GRADING AND ASSIGNMENTS page....
